How Craig Became a Director by 28

Last summer, Craig reached out to me because an amazing career opportunity had come up and he was feeling excited but radically underprepared to take advantage of it.

We had a fantastic time working together (as is often the case when you’re successful), and he was more than pleased to pass on his recommendation.

After he sent me this awesome (and blush inducing) video, I asked him some follow up questions, and here’s what he had to say:

- What’s Your Exact Job Title:

Director of Orientation Programs at Purdue University

- How were you feeling about your job search and the upcoming process before reaching out for help?

I was feeling overwhelmed. At the time, I was serving in an interim capacity during our busiest season, and I did not have much time to think critically about the application and interview process.

- Why did you decide to reach out for help when this Director opportunity came up?

I knew this was something Greg could help with, so I reached out. He eased a lot of the stress right away, because he was one of the first people I knew was in my corner ready to help.

- How was the process of working with me on interview prep, as well as your resume and cover letter (be honest)

The process of working with Greg was easy. He was easy to communicate with and prompt in his responses. When talking with him, he was engaged and interested, and I knew early on he was invested in this having a successful result.

- How did you feel about applying after we worked together?

Working with Greg helped alleviate nerves and gave me more confidence going into the application and interview process.

- What’s life like now that you’ve reached director status at such a young age?

Humbling. I still find myself growing into this position. I'm really fortunate to be looked at in the direction of our office. I'm constantly learning, constantly growing, and extremely grateful for what I'm able to do.

- What’s next for Craig?

Continuing forward! There is always room for improvement, always opportunity to better relationships, and always find avenues to challenge the way we think. We're trying some new things, and trying to do it at a high level. What's next for me it's maximizing my time in this role and doing my best to lead during a time of great opportunity.

want to be the next craig?

I don’t mean literally because only Craig is Craig, but you know. Anyway… Let’s work together!
